FLY ASH HANDLING PROJECT

Capital Power Corporation
Williams Lake Power Plant, BC
Project Year 2009

MG Engineering was hired by Capital Power Corporation (CPC) to study options to improve/replace the current problematic fly ash handling system at the Williams Lake Power Plant. Several options were investigated and for each, a process flow diagram, general arrangement drawing and budgetary pricing were provided. The option chosen by CPC was then studied in further detail and a +/-20% budget was created.

The chosen system includes three storage trailers that can store up to 12 hours of fly ash. The trailers will be stored within a heated building to prevent freezing during the winter months. The fly ash is transported to the nearby landfill by a contractor.

Detailed engineering and installation of this fly ash handling system is expected to start in early 2010.
